Negus Mountain in Rowe, with all the towering mountains along the Mohawk Trail this one leads you straight up with 900 feet of elevation in a short mile with views of Mount Greylock.  We took the ridge trail from old Tunnel Road in the Bear Swamp wilderness. The Mountain’s name is pronounced “knee-gus.” Some call it the “big little mountain” due to its surprisingly rocky summit and respectable height of 1,773 feet.  In the Ethiopian language of Amharic, Negus means “ruler” or “emperor.” One could say, in summation, that this mountain rules…Berkshire Destinations
