Built in 1935, the Monterey Fire Tower is a 60′ steel structure with a “perched” 10’x10′ wooden cab. It was the first tower built in Berkshire County by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and still used today. You see it from almost every mountain trail yet there’s no view at the summit! A great hike up to the summit of Mt. Wilcox parking at the CCC Camp for a 6 mile loop on the Mt. Wilcox Trail in Beartown State Forest.
