One of our best hikes this summer was Bear Mountain, highest peak in Connecticut in Salisbury just over the Mass State line. We started at the Undermountain trailhead on Route 41 climbing gradually and non stop to the Paradise Lane Trail to hike in wall to wall mountain laurel with peeks of Bear Mountain (thinking to myself we have alot more climbing to do!) Then the Sages Ravine Junction with the Appalachian Trail and spent a brief time in Massachusetts…the full rock face bouldering climb up the North side of Bear was incredibly technical and a ton of fun! We hit the summit and it’s giant cairn of stones which Valerie’s dad had done the helicopter lift here…to look out over Brace, Race, Frissell Mountain and more in this 360 degree view. A moderately hard 7 mile loop because of the climbing and bouldering that we all want to do again!
