Hiking to discover more of Beartown State Forest, we took the four mile Sky Peak Loop starting at Perry’s Sawmill and Dam next to the Rigg’s stone house.  This trail was perfect for dogs with plenty of mud puddles and beautiful stream crossings.  The bridge near Beartown Swamp was dry stone laid of exceptional quality, ferns, hardwoods and hemlock were seen near Sky Peak summit where the Appalachian Trail almost parallels the trail.  Last leg of the loop was a bit on the Airplane Trail and the original stone lined colonial road where we found an old trash dump, possibly Riggs? Great wilderness hiking off Beartown Mountain Road. (which is not recommended for low profile vehicles!)
