Our July group hike took us to New York starting at Petersburg Pass we hiked the Taconic Crest Trail Northbound to the infamous Snowhole 6 miles in and back with a few climbs, but mostly a very doable hike for all.  Entering the Hopkins Memorial Forest across from the large parking lot after an immediate climb we visited an impressive view West to New York however Canada forest fire smoke fogged our long views.  At some points along the trail (shown on GAIA gps) there are two more lookouts.  The trail took us along the ridge with waist high ferns in old pasture and many amazing old pasture birch and beech trees.  This hike has it all except no water at all for the dogs, so bring plenty if you venture here.
