Origins of the Becket Quarry…We took a hike following the old Gould Road used to transport granite before the railroad in Becket, present day is off Quarry Road but the original road continued to the present day Becket Quarry.  With the landowners permission we continued for a short spur on private property and then crossed the main Quarry Trail and then the Bowe railroad spur, and continued on the original Gould Road est 1800s up the mountain until the massive grout piles blocked the road.  Here we found a pre-Chester and Becket Railroad stone building and loading dock used to move the granite by team before it was by rail.
Remains of a derrick lie here as well.  Using lidar mapping we researched this old road and saw it’s path, when the large scale quarrying began this building was abandoned and they dugfrom the main pit outward.  Amazing to see this early Granite operation!
