Route 20 was not what it is today…approaching Chester Factory Village heading East where the road winds just past Walker Island, Walker Brook was diverted to build the new road at where the green house is. The pavement color changes here and that’s where the Brook ran through, to top it off the Chester and Becket Railroad here is now the new road bed. The fast moving brook coming down the valley from Becket was moved in order to have less bridges on the road bed, however the railbed never crossed the Brook here but farther downstream twice within 500 feet! The old Walker Brook channel and roadbed can be seen clearly along with the road stone post railings.
