CHESTER AND BECKET RAILROAD The line used to have its own five man section crew, kept busy clearing off rock slides, filling washouts, cutting brush or curing derailments. One summer the men found a big nest of blacksnakes, and not being even slightly snake-loving herpetologists, they killed them and spelled out the little railroad’s name: “Chester-Becket Railroad” on a big rock for the section boss to see-or maybe they just put the initials! -Leonard Spencer
