KNIGHTVILLE RESIDENTS ARE ORDERED OUT
Early Start to Be Made On Big Flood Control.

NEWSPAPERS downplayed the village and how many families lived here, only referred to as “a few farms”  Plans for early action in getting the big project for construction of the flood control dam at Knightville are being worked out by the army engineers, and it is probable there will be a sizable force of men at work on the project within a few weeks.

Property owners have been notified to vacate their premises in the section to be covered by the reservoir, and use will be made of some of the buildings for occupancy by the workmen. The personal effects of residents where buildings will be used will have to be out by the first of the year.  The entire basin to be flooded will have to be evacuated eventually, but for the present the properties to be made use of include only those near the dam site. A large tract will be flooded when the dam is built.

Knightville was named after Sam Knight, one the first settlers in the area. Here, where the new dam is going, a mill and dam stood in the old days, now gone down river with many of the others. The first Huntington town hall was built at Knightville, the center of population at first being much further north than it is today. The town was originally a part of Murrayfield, township No 9, in a block of 10 sold by order of the General Court in 1762. Settlers from Norwich, Ct., came in 1767 and succeeded in havIng the name changed to Norwich in 1773. Settlement was made around Norwich Bridge about a mile north of the center of the present Huntington, with other groups building further up the valley and on the hilltops on either side.
