A warm but windy day paddle with big waves on Buckley Dunton Lake in Becket.  A high mountain lake located in the October Mountain State Forest, the largest state forest in Massachusetts. Dammed in 1967 for the purpose of flood control, it’s 160 acres in size max depth 10 feet, a 3 mile paddle hugging the shoreline.  Only a few houses here at the far end so this lake is full of beaver lodges, at least five!  Launching from the dam area is usually very windy, once around the cove it’s calm.  What makes this lake special is the shoreline across from the dam is a flooded forest with all treetops under your boat!  The entrance is on the corner of Yokum Brook Road and Leonhardt Road, there is a short road called Buckley Dunton on google maps that leads to a parking area next to the dam.
