Mount Everettt shelter. Mount Everett State Reservation off East Street in Mount Washington is spectacular hiking to high elevations with glorious views! We parked at the Appalachian Trail/Mt. Everett trailhead and made our way up 943 feet of elevation to Mt. Everett summit and the old fire tower. Just a half mile up (your choice on the rocky AT or the old gravel road) we stopped at the Mt. Everett shelter (short spur) for views Northeast of Monument Mountain, Mount Greylock, Beartown and just about every named mountain North to the Vermont Line! And the entire Housatonic Valley. Mount Everett towers as the highest mountain on the Taconic Range at 2,620 feet. Another quarter mile of ridge walking in unique pitch pines and scrub oak onto the summit is amazing on narrow rock footpath with a nice breeze. About 2.5 miles in and back for the entire trip.
