One of my favorite sections of the Huckleberry Trolley Line is in Becket. This section on the survey is known as map 8. After George Carter Road heading West the WMECO right of way deviates off higher on the hill, the trolley bed stays as close to the grade as possible. During construction, the forest was cut back and where the way was not flat, large wooden trestles were built and filled with dirt. Upon entering ledge, the rock was blasted away and pulled above the line with a derrick placed here. The piles of stone are still here evidence of the massive amount of man power to construct this electric street railway. This is also home to the only known existing and attached wooden insulator. The construction photos can be matched to exactly what this section looks like today.
