The office of the Chester Granite and Polishing Works located on Main Street in Chester. This property, with a building was sold by Nathan Root to John Fitzpatrick in 1843, and to Francis S. Gross in 1885, although no building appears on the 1870 map. It is not clear when the Chester and Hudson Granite Company bought the property although the company was formed in 1892. The present building served as both the office and draftsroom for the company.
The property was foreclosed on in 1947 and in 1949 was bought by Wm. P. and Ruth A. Tracy and was used for a period as the town Post Office, until the 1960’s when Ruth Tracy granted the property to the Glad Tidings Church, of the Southern New England District of Assemblies of God. Finally in the late 1970’s it was converted to residential use.
