The Coles Brook limestone in Middlefield. Hitchcock reported it as occurring in the west part of Middlefield on Pontoosuc turnpike, on the railroad at the mouth of Coles Brook, part of a seven mile unique vien of rock that looks like hardwood floors. When hiking parts of the Pontoosuc Turnpike, the first road thru the vast wilderness of the West Branch of the Westfield River we came across this in Coles Brook along with a primitive bridge for the original road. #geology
