Hunger Mountain in Monterey was Sunday afternoons flash hike destination. This parcel is part of Beartown State Forest located in between Hupi and Mount Hunger Road with two parking spots on Hupi and one on Mount Hunger near Mount Hunger Cemetery. Mount Hunger is home to the Monterey Cobbles, a unique geological formation formed by thrust outwards, and one of several in Western Mass with quartzite rock which fragments into flat rectangular pieces. The pink and tan stone can be seen on the approach from below where the two open lookouts are. Trails are not marked but easily distinguishable. Besides the cobble trail network there are also paths through old farmland above Lake Garfield. A beaver pond with an infinity edge adds to the sights to see here, a total of about 3 miles of trails which all loop into each other.
