Moose on the loose! The Becket State Forest is wild in the Walker Brook Valley, on both sides of the Route 20 corridor. DCR owns several tracts of land here, each with some historical value of when the earliest settlers came to this wilderness to survive in harsh conditions. Moose, coyote, bear and bobcat frequent this area, especially with the large amount of swamp area that the moose enjoy! On a Friday flash hike we came across some mother and baby moose scat and hair and followed an animal freeway of tracks of deer and bear as well. Don’t forget moose are huge and dangerous, especially with young, so keep your distance!
