Continue on the ridge on Unkamit’s Path Section 7 along the cliffs for more views, some ups and downs heading west along the ridge then back onto the fire road that runs along the center top of tekoa, take your first left to gradually get down stopping at the Mount Nero lookout.

Tekoa Mountain, a favotite destination for hikers and peak baggers alike with its rock cliffs towering over the Westfield River Valley as seen from Route 20 in Russell. This land was originally home to the Woronoakes who fished the river and traversed the footpaths along the rocky crags. Today, hikers enjoy the challenge of getting up to the ledges, and there are three ways to get there from Russell. Saturday’s flash hike took us up the most difficult way before the ice covers the rock, just a half a mile of rock scrambling, sheer rock face to navigate…the payoff is the spectacular views every inch of the way.
