Bakers Quarry and Marble Cave in Lanesborough
A narrow slot leads to an 8 foot drop to the main tunnel, a tube that is 4′ high and about 5′ wide. after 20′ or so you can choose to follow the right hand passage which is very low for 15′ until this passage rejoins the main one. On the left passage, climb into a room that heads upwards towards the surface and has flowstone and a lot of dates carved in the rock from past explorers. Some of these dates go back to the early 1800s. Stalagtites above and flowstone covers the entire floor. Don’t try it without a guide and proper gear! Thank you to Jim Moore our local spelunking expert.
