Constitution Cave in Lanesborough is historically known and has had many names, including Counterfeiter’s Cave. Once used as a shelter by humans, it now harbors only porcupines. The main entrance is in a ledge overlooking the brook. It is an easy walk into the first room, and a second entrance is on the left. A short crawl on the right leads down into the main room, which is a circular chamber about ten feet high and ten feet wide. There is one lead, which is full of porcupine poop, and, usually, porcupines. The cave is small, with only around 50ft of passage, but has some historical value and its main room is surprisingly large for its length. Jim Moore/Tom Hoffman
