Saturday’s flash hike took us to Franklin County and the Northernmost hilltowns of Florida, Monroe and Charlemont on the infamous Mohawk Trail to explore the Deerfield River area. First stop, Raycroft Outlook, built by the CCC during the great depression when developing the Monroe State Forest. This short one miler hike from parking on Raycroft Road slopes downward on wooden steps, we headed out on Hunt Hill to catch one of the most impressive lookouts 180 degrees over Bear Swamp Upper and Lower Reservoir with the Deerfield River far below. The power line cut on the way there offers views to Vermont and West to the Western Summit too! This is just a small corner of the Monroe State Forest, looking forward to coming back to hike much more here!
