Parsons Marsh in Lenox takes its name from John E. Parsons, a New York City attorney who purchased land in 1875 and built a Gilded Age house and outbuildings. Parsons and his descendants made significant contributions to conservation lands in Lenox including the southern portion of Parsons Marsh. Starting in 2016, BNRC conserved 183 acres in the Undermountain Valley, buoyed by an outpouring of support. Today, BNRC’s Parsons Marsh Reserve and Trail is a natural gem, open and free to all.
This trail is 1/3 of a mile one way and is handicap accessible. Our visit here was memorable because a Lenox native told us a story about her husband, an avid forest lover. When he was no longer able to hike our beautiful woods and was wheelchair bound she took him here and that brought tears to his eyes. Bravo to our good friends Berkshire Natural Resources Council for creating this wonderful Peter Jensen designed hiking destination!
