Robinson Point at Mount Greylock State Reservation views looking into the Hopper are breathtaking! This short spur trail starts on Notch Road (a few parking spots here). This trail only a half mile in and back is very strenuous with 270 feet of elevation in just a quarter mile, trail drops steeply over rocks and giant roots extremely erroded and crazy slick, rated difficult on my list. The pay out is priceless. A gauranteed wow at the rocky perch looking west over the Hopper to Mt. Fitch and Mt. Prospect with Stony Ledge to your left. Climbing your way out is much easier foot placement wise but you climb almost verticle back up 270 feet.
Saturday’s hike at Mount Greylock State Reservation was a route from the Sperry Road CCC trail parking, up the Hopper to the Overlook Trail, then onto to Notch Road and a spur to Robinsons Point with phenomenal views! We then got on the Appalachian Trail and followed the old Thunderbolt Ski Trail to the summit ( here some of us went on Mike Whalen’s Walk with Thoreau event) lunch at Bascom Lodge, up the War Memorial then back down on the Appalachian Trail to Hopper and parking at Sperry Road. Just under 7 miles and 6 hours on the highest mountain in Massachusetts!
