The Middle Road Trail, an old colonial road high up on the ridge above the Westfield River, the old Needles Eye Trail once connected here, traces of it can be seen, we asked the rangers about this one too. It is being cleaned up and soon it will be hikable. Also off Middle Road Trail is Ridge Road Trail heading to the highest elevation in the State Forest. There once was a summit trail off of Ridge Road too. Rangers are looking for that one, we suggested finding the Benchmark and going from there. We took Middle Road Trail west to where it ends at River Road passing the Babbitt Axe Factory site and back to the parking lot for a total of 3.5 miles on this section. We still have more trails to explore here!

Exploring the trails at Windsor State Forest that are still in existence. The rangers are in the process of finding the old trails here, grown over from when this State Forest was closed and bringing it back to life. Windsor State Forest, newly re-opened 1,626 acres of heavily wooded hilly land with a small section in Savoy.
