Flash hike Friday on Unkamit’s Path Section 7, the white dot Hilltown long trail up Shatterack Mountain in Russell. It’s only a mile up to the blue rock but with 700 feet of elevation gain its a slow go. Be ready for the quad burn on the way down. Spectacular views East of the Westfield River Valley and Wild and Scenic River, then West and North of our Hilltowns of Huntington, Middlefield, Peru. This rock face sits atop the village of Russell and Turtle Bend Mountain. Follow the white blaze from the curved gaurdrail next to Hull, trail is very steep and develops into rock face, with cliffs and two rock scrambles then joins the Shatterack Ridge Trail and continues East to Tekoa Ridge and finally Westfield at Bush Hollow where it joins the New England Trail. Unkamit’s Path also continues West where it meets up with the Appalachian Trail in October Mountain State Forest. I could hike here every day!
