Continuing on the hunt for all the pit quarries, we went in from old Bonny Rigg Road. Farther down from where the Bowe switch came off the Chester Becket Railroad, passing the Becket Otis Boundary stone and to the back side of the Becket Quarry woods trails, right along the Mass Turnpike for a closer look. Some metal was found here in the piles of granite, but no equipment.
This past fall we were determined to find all the historic granite quarries in Becket and Otis. When the Chester Becket Railroad was opened, full scale quarrying operations were using it to transport the stone to the Chester finishing mills, some used the Huckleberry Trolley Line in a limited way, others by trucks. What we have found is a string of smaller pit operations along the granite line that stretches from the original Turner Farm, Snowflake Quarry to the Joseph Newell Quarry (present day Williams Stone).
