Gobble Mountain in Chester is a challenging, but achievable hike with a little something for everyone. The main trail to the summit starts at Middlefield Road across from the Chester Elementary School building. The trail winds through majestic cliff faces topped with lush overgrowth, a great diversity of mountain wildflowers and New England hardwoods. The mountain is home to many animals including owl, fox, bobcat and coyote. Historical features include stone walls of the pioneer valley homesteads, the smallest of six named emery mines in Chester, and an abandoned airway beacon at the summit. The hike is 1.3 miles to the summit (2.6 round trip) and just under 1000 vertical feet. The terrain becomes increasingly steep and disorienting as one approaches the summit. Estimated time is 3 hours.
Please be aware that there are no facilities at the trail. There is a small gravel pull off at the trail head for parking. Look for where there is a break in the guardrail, that’s the trailhead. The Trail of Ledges and Unkamit’s Path (white dot) also cross through the main Gobble Trail.

No it runs next to it, in the valley through the Keystone Arches, its beautiful!
