The Double Arch, still used today by CSX daily, the only Keystone Arch located entirely in Chester. This bridge carries trains 40 times heavier than they were designed for. In 1830, a steam locomotive weighed about 12,000 lbs. The average locomotive of 2003 weighs in the neighborhood of 415,000 lbs. This and those arches bypassed in the line relocation of 1912 have stood for 91 years with no maintenance whatsoever. Few bridges built today will stand for 91 years under any circumstances.

The Keystone Arch Bridges Trail from our group hike 10-16-21. We thank you all for coming to Chester and hiking with us and learning about the great history from Mr. Dave Pierce !

Thank you to special guest Chef John Slattery at the trailhead with breakfast!!
